You cannot create a new reality while looking at your old reality....

The title of this note was part of a status update of mine recently and one of the comments on this came from a friend. She said: "That's the part of The Secret that I find the most difficult to deal with - how to focus on a new reality, when the present one keeps rearing its head!"

I promised I would share some ideas around this, as the above is key to creating a new reality. It's helpful to understand some interesting concepts which assist in leaving behind the old and stepping into the new.

Firstly, every single one of us has the inborn desire to improve our lives. All our life experiences help us to develop and evolve into someone better. We are constantly wanting to improve some aspect of our lives. This is exciting and also never ending! Whenever we are faced with a life situation that we really do not want, in that instant, a desire for a better situation is born. That is how it works every time! It’ our natural inclination!

Every time we have a desire whether that be for a better relationship, better finances, better health etc. we are in essence creating the current in the river of our life.

Now imagine yourself in a little boat on this fast moving river. The direction of the current is towards the expanded new version of ourselves that all our wants and desires have created, imagine them all being downstream.

When life creates a situation where we really want or need something different we often tend to focus almost obsessively on the circumstances that caused the new desire to be born. That is where all our attention goes sometimes for months or even years on end! That is like paddling as hard as we can upstream towards where we have come from! Often it’s that focus that keeps us stuck in a place we dislike and the more we focus on this place we don’t like the more we stay in exactly the same spot and the harder we paddle against the current.

Imagine if you will that you were paddling as hard as possible against the current and then suddenly you just simply let go of the oars and let the fast moving river turn your little boat while you sat back and floated downstream. Can you physically feel the relief of that?

Here is the lesson:

The more we learn to let go (taking our focus off unpleasant current situations) and flow with the current (by turning all our attention to the things wanted and desired) the faster we will arrive at the things we want! The things we want are all downstream!

So here are the steps:

When you are wanting or needing to create a new reality, recognize the circumstances that have caused that desire to come up in you, look at the situation momentarily and then ask yourself this important question: “am I pointed upstream or downstream?”

Upstream being focusing and thinking about the situation or circumstances that created the desire for change or downstream focusing and thinking about what the new circumstances will be like when you get there by simply allowing the current to take you towards them.

This may seem like a simple thing to do, but it really really works! When you are in a state of resistance (paddling upstream) it’s very difficult to do anything that will produce lasting positive results. However, when are in a state of flow (floating downstream) you will be amazed at the number of inspired ideas you will get, that, when followed will help you arrive effortlessly at the things that your heart truly desires.

Just saw this beautiful orchid... Hope the pictures do it justice...

This just reminded me again that there is so much beauty around us that we must stop and savour. Silent testimony of the amazing planet we share.

This is something we should ALL be taking seriously

A few days ago we went to see Earth. It's a moving film which I strongly recommend seeing.

I couldn't help feeling that we all need to be thinking about the impact our lifestyle is having on the planet? We are wanting to set up a family meeting to talk about we can do to reduce our carbon footprint.

Well done to Pick n' Pay for showing us one place we can start.

What is your family planning on doing to reduce your foot print? Would love to here
